A Note From Our President

Greetings AAEYC Members and Friends,

What an exciting time to be working with young children and to be in the Austin Community. The AAEYC Board has been working hard to set this year’s calendar of events. We think it will provide a balance of familiar events as well as some new ones.

We have some great opportunities for Professional Development this year. Our State conference will be in Corpus Christi on October 16-18, 2008. You can register at Texas AEYC. Our National organization, the National Association for the Education of Young Children is also holding their conference here in the great State of Texas. It will be held in Dallas on November 5-8. You can find more information about that conference at NAEYC's website.

The other opportunity for professional development is a little closer to home. Last year AAEYC held 2 trainings in our newly developed Professional Development Series. This year we will be hold 4 of these trainings throughout the year; those dates are October 13th, November 17th, February 9th and June 8th. All the trainings will be held at Workforce Solutions: Child Care Services, immediately following monthly board meetings, from 7:00-8:30pm. If you are interested in submitting a proposal to present a training, please follow this link for an application form.

Of course the Board is already working on plans for the Week of the Young, April 19-25th. Our Annual AAEYC Conference will be held on April 25th at the Eastview Campus of Austin Community College. We will be inviting presenter proposals soon.

We are looking forward to this 2008-2009 year. It looks like it will be a very exciting time for those of us working with young children, their families and the professionals who support them everyday.

Sincerely,

Kim Kofron

AAEYC President
